The new Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces is Brigadier General Uroš Paternus

On Friday, 2 February 2024, Lieutenant General Robert Glavaš appointed Brigadier General Uroš Paternus as the new Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces.

The position has been held since 2022 by Brigadier General Franc Koračin, who will soon retire after more than three decades of service in the Slovenian Armed Forces.

Colonel Igor Šepec has been appointed as Deputy Force Commander. The position has been previously held by Brigadier General Paternus since 2022.

Brigadier General Paternus has held a number of positions in the Slovenian Armed Forces, including Platoon Leader, 1st Special Brigade MORIS (1997), Team Leader, Special Operations Detachment (1998), Chief of Operational Training Section, Special Operations Detachment (2001), Deputy Commander, Special Operations Detachment (2002), Deputy Commander, Special Operations Unit (2004), Commander, Special Operations Unit (2007), Commander, 72nd Brigade (2018), Chief, Military Policy and Strategic Planning Division (2018), Commander, 1st Brigade (2018), and Chief of Staff, SAF General Staff (2020). For the past two years, he has held the position of Deputy Force Commander of the Slovenian Armed Forces (2022-2024). As of February 2024, he is taking over as Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces.

In the context of international operations and missions, he served as Deputy Contingent Commander in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan in 2004 and as Contingent Commander in 2011. In 2019, he was deployed to KFOR mission in Kosovo.

He was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General on 15 May 2020, and has been awarded a number of decorations for his work in the field of defence and the military.

Brigadier General Uroš Paternus was born in 1973 and lives in Ribnica with his family.
