The Force Command operates from the Ivan Cankar Barracks in Vrhnika. It is directly subordinate to the General Staff. In accordance with its mission, the Force Command ensures conditions for the effective planning and conduct of operations by Slovenian Armed Forces commands and units, both in the Republic of Slovenia and abroad. It maintains a constant state of readiness for operational engagement and provides support to state authorities within the national protection and disaster relief system.
As a joint command, the Force Command provides forces, exercises command and control over SAF commands and units at home and abroad, and delivers host nation support.
In its role as a national-level command, the Force Command plans, coordinates, executes, and evaluates offensive, defensive, and stabilization operations.
1st BRIGADE
The 1st Brigade is responsible for conducting combined arms operations at the tactical level. It serves the homeland, the citizens of the Republic of Slovenia, and the national interests of the country.
Upon order or within a prescribed response time, it ensures combat readiness for decisive operations with the capabilities of a light infantry brigade or a motorized battalion battle group, operating independently or as part of combined formations, domestically or internationally. Its mission is to establish tactical conditions for battlefield dominance, achieve victory over the enemy, secure a safe environment, and provide protection, rescue, and support to civilian authorities.
72nd BRIGADE
The 72nd Brigade provides standing and response forces to support national defence and alliance operations.
It maintains the existing and develops the required operational capabilities within the national territory and within NATO, deploys forces to international operations and missions, and contributes to the national protection and disaster relief system, including support to state authorities in securing the national border.
LOGISTICS BRIGADE OF THE SLOVENIAN ARMED FORCES
The Logistics Brigade ensures the required levels of training and readiness for its commands and units.
It plans, coordinates, and delivers logistical support to Slovenian Armed Forces commands and units.
It ensures the preparedness of personnel and operational material resources for protection and disaster relief operations in the event of natural or other disasters. It participates in providing host nation support to allied forces within the territory of the Republic of Slovenia or in transit. The brigade also cooperates with local communities and carries out civil-military cooperation tasks.
15th AVIATION AND AIR DEFENCE BRIGADE
The 15th Aviation and Air Defence Brigade ensures the constant readiness of the aviation capabilities to operate independently or in support of other Slovenian Armed Forces, Civil Protection, Police and Allied units, both at home and on operations abroad, and within the system of protection against natural and other disasters.
In support of air operations, it provides air surveillance capabilities and capabilities of air-operations control in the airspace of the Republic of Slovenia and at the Cerklje ob Krki Air Base.
It operates its own aviation training facilities and a Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) School, which is recognized both regionally and internationally.
TERRITORAL FORCE COMMAND
The Territorial Force Command provides essential capabilities to expand and strengthen complementary forces.
In combat operations, they support the execution of territorial combat control tasks, the protection of critical defence facilities, obstruction operations, and logistical supply. Additionally, it assists in managing military infrastructure, territorial logistics, limited engineering tasks, and the reception, accommodation, and, if necessary, logistical support of allied forces.
430th NAVAL DIVISION
The mission of the Naval Division is to provide capabilities that contribute to defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state, as well as to promoting and protecting the interests of the Republic of Slovenia.
The unit also participates in the national protection and rescue system and in defense against natural and other disasters, primarily in search and rescue operations at sea and in mitigating and responding to ecological incidents at sea.
14th ENGINEER BATTALION
14. inženirski bataljon zagotavlja inženirsko podporo poveljstvom in enotam Slovenske vojske za potrebe nacionalne obrambe, z deklariranimi moduli v sestavi mednarodnih sil zagotavlja inženirsko podporo mednarodnim vojaškim sestavom za potrebe odvračanja, obrambe ter kriznega odzivanja. It also provides support to the protection and rescue system of the Republic of Slovenia.
18th CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL, RADIOLOGICAL AND NUCLEAR DEFENCE BATTALION
The 18th Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defense Battalion is a specialized unit of the Slovenian Armed Forces providing combat support to commands and units of the Slovenian Armed Forces and NATO in the field of nuclear, radiological, chemical, and biological (NBC) defense.
17th MILITARY POLICE BATTALION
The 17th Military Police Battalion, in accordance with legal provisions, is responsible for maintaining military order and discipline. It prevents, detects, and investigates offences and participates in the investigation of criminal acts within the Slovenian Armed Forces.
The battalion regulates and controls military traffic, provides protection for designated persons within the defence sector, performs specific tasks related to the security of facilities and areas of special importance to national defence, and contributes to the fulfilment of the Slovenian Armed Forces’ international obligations.
JOINT TRAINING CENTER
The Joint Training Center conducts training, training support, evaluation support, and competency assessment of members, commands, and units of the Slovenian Armed Forces, and cooperates with civilian structures for the needs of the System for Protection against Natural and Other Disasters.
It manages and operates training grounds, firing ranges, infrastructure facilities, and resources within the framework of the Central Training Area (CTA) of the Slovenian Armed Forces, and plans and supervises activities in the CTA.
11th COMMUNICATIONS, INFORMATION AND CYBER DEFENCE REGIMENT
The 11th Communications, Information and Cyber Defence Regiment establishes secure and adaptable communication and information infrastructures and digital backbones with the aim of ensuring high availability for multidomain planning and the execution of military operations within the territory of the Republic of Slovenia.
5th INTELLIGENCE AND RECONNAISSANCE UNIT
The 5th Intelligence and Reconnaissance Unit, through centralized command and decentralized execution, conducts intelligence activities and tasks in support of the Slovenian Armed Forces. Its mission is to provide effective military intelligence and reconnaissance support at the strategic, operational, and tactical levels.
