Air Defence

Air defence units are part of combat support forces, and are tasked with providing fire support and operational assistance to combat forces. The SAF air defence units are part of the element of active air defence of the Republic of Slovenia, which is carried out through combat operations against an adversary’s aerial attack assets to deter or neutralize its power or to destroy it before it can accomplish its mission.

Airspace monitoring and control assets are part of the command support forces. They carry out airspace monitoring and control using 24/7 long-range radar systems and short-range radar systems with a limited time interval. They are responsible for the transfer, fusion and processing of radar data, aircraft identification, and the production and reporting of the airspace situational picture for national purposes and in the context of the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defence System (NATINAMDS). These assets carry out the control and combat management of air defence weapon systems when engaging targets within the airspace.

MASE/MICE – NATO Air Command and Control System

MASE (Multi-AEGIS Site Emulator) and MICE (MASE Integrated Console Environment) are software packages used for monitoring and controlling the airspace of the Republic of Slovenia.

MASE runs on a server and is used to handle and process all input data, such as radar data, flight plan data and tactical data links. Running on a workstation, MICE is used by the operational shift of the 16th Control and Reporting Centre to carry out its tasks, which include the production of the recognized air picture, identification, and airspace monitoring and control. The software supports all contemporary transport protocols and formats.
