Force Commander

Brigadier General Milan Žurman

Brigadier General Milan Žurman was enlisted into National Service in 1983, specifically into Air Defense Artillery Reserve Officers School. He graduated from that school in 1984 and was commissioned as a 2LT in 1985.

His initial appointment was an air defense platoon commander in the reserve component of the former Yugoslav Army. In 1989 he became a battery commander and was promoted to 1LT.

After the independence of Slovenia in 1991 he started full - time active service in the Slovenian Territorial Defense Force which is now known as the Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF).

Brigadier General Žurman assignments were XO Infantry Company 57th Territorial Staff from 1991-1992; Chief S-4, 3rd Battalion, 9th ADA Brigade in Ljubljana, from 1992 to 1993; Commander, Air defense training battery, 9th ADA Brigade in Ljubljana, from 1993 to 1995; Commander, 1st Battalion, 9th ADA Brigade in Vrhnika, from 1995-2002; Chief of Staff, SAF Support Command in Kranj, from 2002-2005; Chief J4, General Staff, from 2005-2009; Head of APC/IFV procurement division in the Directorate for logistics in MoD from 2009-2011; Chief of Staff, Nato Headquarters Sarajevo from 2010-2011; Commander SAF Support Command and after transformation Logistics Brigade in Kranj from 2012 to 2018; acting Chief of Staff, General Staff SAF in 2018; Chief of Staff, Force Command SAF from 2018 to 2019 and currently serves as the Force Commander of the Slovenian Armed Forces.

As a national representative Brigadier General Žurman participated in Nato logistical boards as Bi-SC Logistics Coordination Board (LCB), BI-SC LCB Doctrine Committee (LCB DC), Logistic Staff Meeting (LSM) and as Chief J4, General Staff in Senior Nato Logisticians' Conference (SNLC) later Nato Logistics Committee (LC) and EU Military Staff Logistics Conference (EUMS LC). During his career he has participated in several arms and equipment acquisition and introduction into the force projects as the project leader or member of project management.


His military education includes an Air Defense Artillery Reserve Officer School, former Yugoslav National Army, Air Defense Artillery Advanced Course, USAADASCH, Fort Bliss, Texas, Senior Staff Course, Command and Staff School of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Leaders for the XXI. Century Course, George C. Marshall Centre, Germany, Air to Ground Operation Orientation Course, Air to Ground Operations School, Netherlands, General Staff Course and Command and Staff School of the Slovenian Armed Forces.

He graduated from University of Maribor, Faculty of Organizational Science with a bachelor degree, majoring in human resources management.

Brigadier General Žurman and his wife, Damjana, have two children, Rok and Nika.
