Command Senior Enlisted Leader

Command Sergeant Major Marjan Horvat

Command Sergeant Major Horvat was born on 23 May 1973 in Ptuj, the Republic of Slovenia.


His military career started in the General Military High School Franc Rozman Stane in Ljubljana. In 1995 he finished the Slovenian NCO School and started working there as an instructor.


His early assignments included various duties in the NCO School. From 1995 to 2000 he worked as an instructor and after that he was assigned as the Subject Matter Expert until 2003. Between 2003 and 2004 he was assigned as the NCO School Senior Enlisted Leader. After successfully completing his education in the USA he took over the Command Senior Enlisted Leader position in the 72nd Brigade (2005-2008). After that he worked as the Senior Non Commissioned Officer (NCO) for Development (2008-2010) in the Doctrine, Development, Education and Training Command and later as Head of Advanced and Senior NCO Courses (2010) in the Command and Staff School. In 2011 he was assigned as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader in the Doctrine, Development, Education and Training Command (2011-2013) and after that he was assigned as the Commandant of the NCO School (2013-2014) as the first NCO so far. From 2014 to 2017 he worked as Subject Matter Expert for Leadership and Management in the Military Schools Centre.


His military education includes the NCO School in the Slovenian Armed Forces, the Sergeants Course in the Marine Corps University, Camp Lejeune Quantico, Virginia, the Battle Staff NCO Course, US Army Mobile Training Team, the Battle Staff Course in the Slovenian Armed Forces, the Sergeants Major Course, USASMA, Fort Bliss Texas and the NATO Senior NCO Orientation Course, NATO School Oberammergau.


He holds a Bachelor Degree from the Faculty of Administration at the University of Ljubljana.


His work has earned him numerous awards and decorations including the Silver Medal of General Maister, the Silver Medal of the Slovenian Armed Forces, the Silver Medal of the Doctrine, Development, Education and Training Command, the Golden Badge of the 72nd Brigade, the bronze plaque of Military Schools Centre and the bronze plaque of the NCO School.
He is married and has a daughter.
