The school is responsible for providing language training in accordance with STANAG 6001 NATO standards for Slovenian Armed Forces members and personnel of the Ministry of Defence as well as for the members of armed forces from Partnership for Peace countries. In addition, the school provides translation, interpreting and proofreading services for the needs of the Slovenian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence.

Tasks

Language training

The aim of general language courses is to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in accordance with STANAG 6001 criteria for levels 1, 2 and 3.

The aim of military language courses is to develop and improve job-related language skills. The topics are of a general military content (weapons, equipment, military base …) or specialized (orders, reconnaissance …).

Teacher Training

These courses aim at improving the quality and efficiency of teaching and testing general English or English for specific purposes and testing.

General Teacher Training
The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to the practical elements of effective EFL instruction for professional adults.

English for Specific Purposes Teacher Training
The purpose of this course is to provide participants with hands-on experience in designing, teaching, and evaluating ESP lessons for military and civilian professionals.

Test Familiarisation Course
The main goal of this course is to become familiar with international language testing standards and their application.

ELT Management Course
It tries to improve management and organizational skills in foreign language teaching and testing.

Language testing

Language testing includes ALCPTs before starting course work, and achievement tests at the end of a course. The school develops and administers STANAG 6001 exams following the Standardized Language Profile (SLP).

Translating and interpreting

  • Translating written materials from Slovenian into English, German, French and vice versa.
  • Consecutive and simultaneous interpreting for English at various professional events, meetings and conferences within the Ministry of Defence and the Slovenian Armed Forces.
  • Proofreading English, German and French.
