Two Slovenian civilian functional experts – veterinarians, an employee of the Department of Civil Defence and a member of the Slovenian Armed Forces, have joined a Provincial Reconstruction Team in Herat in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Their task is to develop a support project for the Veterinary Service of Herat in order to implement a one-year vaccination campaign which will involve animals of nomads in this region, and to establish relations between expert services and institutions in Herat and Slovenia in the area of veterinary profession and service. The project is for the first time supported by two Slovenian ministries; namely, the Ministry of Defence which has provided two appropriately selected and trained experts as well as the logistic support in the area of civil-military cooperation, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which has provided appropriate resources for the implementation of civil-development programmes.
