Two members of the 12th SAF Contingent engaged in UN peace operation UNTSO

On Friday, 13 August, two months passed since two members of the 12th Slovenian Armed Forces contingent, Major Karin Samec and Captain Bojan Prešeren, arrived to the peace operation UNTSO.

Members of the 12th SAF contingent perform duties of military observers in two different countries, Israel and Syria. The first two months of their operation were marked with numerous hours of learning and acquainting with the area of responsibility, tasks and standard operating procedures related to reporting and reacting in various situations; everything with the aim to acquire the necessary knowledge and experience to independently perform the duties of UNTSO military observers. All their efforts were repaid at the end of July, when they successfully completed all the tests. Their way to success would most certainly be much harder had they not received assistance from their experienced colleagues with whom they perform tasks in the Golan Heights. Troops engaged in operation UNTSO come from 23 different countries.

New military observers and civilians arrive to Jerusalem.

New military observers train in the use of fire extinguishers. (Fires are a common phenomenon in the Golan Heights, hence it is crucial to know how to use fire extinguishers.)

Transfer of duty at the observation post: Capt. Stanislav Simek (Slovakia) hands over duty to Major Karin Samec (Slovenia).

Two UNTSO military observers (Capt. David Toohey (Australia) and Major Karin Samec (Slovenia)) meet in front of the GILO (Golan Israeli Liaison Office) building before leaving for an inspection of the facilities of the Israeli Armed Forces in the occupied Golan Heights.
