On Wednesday, 2 November, a UN medal-awarding ceremony took place at the military base in Shama, where the 10th Slovenian Armed Forces Contingent is stationed during its six-month mission in operation UNIFIL in Lebanon (SVNCON 10 UNIFIL). The ceremony was attended by Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Turkey, also accredited to Lebanon, Dr Milan Jazbec, and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Slovenia in Lebanon, Dr Raymond El-Hachem.
Members of the Slovenian Contingent received medals from the hands of the UNIFIL Sector West Commander, Brigadier General Gualtiero Mario De Cicco, who emphasised in his speech the high professionalism and competence of the Slovenian Contingent and extended his appreciation for their well-done job. Dr Milan Jazbec stressed the importance of, both, maintaining peace in south Lebanon and the Slovenian Armed Forces making a valuable contribution through the good quality and professional performance. Dr Jazbec also spoke about the 20th anniversary of the last YPA soldier leaving the territory of the Republic of Slovenia.
Medals of the Ministry of Defence for international cooperation have also been awarded at the ceremony. UNIFIL Sector West Commander, Brigadier General De Cicco, received the medal from the hands of Dr Milan Jazbec. After the ceremony, both guests engaged in a relaxing conversation with members of SVNCON 10 UNIFIL in the Slovenian part of the Shama military base.
