Solemn formation prior to the deployment of the 26th Slovenian Contingent to international operation KFOR in Kosovo

On 10 September, members of the 26th Slovenian KFOR Contingent gathered in the Celje military post. The contingent is to be deployed to a six-month mission in Kosovo in the second half of September. The ceremony was attended by MoD State Secretary Mr Peter Stavanja and Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) Force Commander Brigadier General Branimir Furlan. The troops were first addressed by Brigadier General Furlan, followed by themain speaker, State Secretary Stavanja. The latter emphasized that the contingent was in for a very demanding mission, which he was convinced they would accomplish exemplarily considering their skills and capabilities.

The 26th contingent includes 300 members from different SAF units. The main body, which will be stationed in the military base Villagio Italia near Peć, is composed of two manoeuvre companies of the 20th Motorised Battalion. The contingent also includes a Logistic Platoon, five Liaison Monitoring Teams, a Helicopter Squad and a National Support Element. Several contingent members will also perform tasks in KFOR Command in Priština and in Regional Command West in Peć.

Before the solemn formation, a family gathering was organised, where contingent members spent a pleasant afternoon with their families, attending different workshops, presentations and sports activities for the young ones.
