Slovenian Armed Forces won nine medals at the 5th Military World Games

A day before the closing of the 5th Military World Games which were held between 16 and 24 July in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and were attended by over 6,000 military athletes from 110 countries, the number of Slovenian medals increased by additional three bronze medals.
Lucija Polavder won bronze in judo in the category over 78 kg. She lost to the second runner up from Brazil. However, after the competition, many considered the throw used to defeat her disputable. The competition was won by a French competitor. The second bronze medal for the Slovenian Armed Forces was awarded to Nuša Rajher in taekwondo, in the category of up to 73 kg. Following a number of rather disputable referee decisions, she was defeated as early as in the first round by the Brazilian who later on won the competition. After their last jump, Slovenian parachutists Borut Erjavec, Domen Vodišek, Senad Salkič, Roman Karun, and Uroš Ban ended up third, although they had been in lead throughout the competition. The competition was won by Italians, followed by Hungarians in the second place.
The Slovenian Armed Forces team thus won a total of nine medals. Gold medal went to Urška Žolnir, silver to Raša Sraka and a team of shooters, while bronze medals were won by Robert Markoja in shooting, Lucija Polavder in judo, Nuša Rajher in taekwondo, Borut Erjavec in parachuting, the team of parachutists and Matija Kranjc in javelin throwing.
