Slovenian Armed Forces and representatives of the project “Clean Slovenia in One Day” successfully complete model cleaning campaign
On Saturday, 10 April, the Slovenian Armed Forces carried out a sample cleaning campaign, in which members of the Slovenian Armed Forces together with the representatives of the project “Clean Slovenia in One Day” cleaned the former military range Strmica nad Vrhniko, the territory by the Novo mesto Military Post and the SAF Central Training Range at Poček near Postojna. Within the campaign, 182 m3 of waste was collected in all three locations.
At the waste dump at the former training range Strmica, 40 m3 of waste was collected, out of that 35 m3 of recyclable waste and 15 m3 of mixed waste.
At the illegal waste dump near the Novo mesto Military Post, 50 m3 of waste was collected, i.e. 10 m3 of car tyres, 20 m3 separated recyclable waste and 20 m3 of mixed waste.
At the Central Training Range at Poček, 92 m3 of waste was collected, i.e. 45 m3 separated recyclable waste and 47 m3 of mixed waste.
The sample cleaning campaign was also attended by the Minister of Defence Dr Ljubica Jelušič and the SAF Chief of General Staff Major General Alojz Šteiner. On that occasion, the Minister of Defence stressed the importance of such events and civil-military cooperation of the Slovenian Armed Forces also in the area of ecology. She also stated the following: “Today’s campaign showed that SAF members together with civilian ecologically aware organisations contribute to the future common goal, which is to assure a high level of awareness to preserve the nature for our future generations.”
One of the heads of the project, Aleš Pevc, said: “With regard to the today’s course of the campaign, I would like to recommend to the participants who will attend the campaign next Saturday to print out the instruction manual for volunteers and bring it to the site. At the same time, I suggest that they bring additional bags, since there is really an enormous quantity of waste in several layers. Rakes and hoes will also come useful.”
Within the cleaning campaign “Clean Slovenia in One Day”, the Slovenian Armed Forces members will clean the territories in the property of the Ministry of Defence, military posts, warehouses and other SAF buildings and their direct vicinity. The recyclable waste will be separated, while the unrecycable waste will be taken to collection sites designated by the organiser of the environmental campaign “Clean Slovenia in One Day”.
