Signing of the Agreement on Cooperation within the Multinational Centre of Excellence for Mountain Warfare

On 15 November 2011, a ceremony took place at the Bohinjska Bela Military Post, marking the signing of the Agreement on Cooperation within the Multinational Centre of Excellence for Mountain Warfare. The Agreement was signed by the representatives of Austria, Italy and Hungary. On behalf of the Slovenian Armed Forces, the Agreement was signed by Brigadier Bojan Pograjc, Commandant, Doctrine, Development, Education and Training Command, and Secretary General of the International Federation of Mountain Soldiers.

The Agreement on Cooperation is a result of intensive coordination of the mission, tasks and aims of this multinational unit’s operation. This concluded the first round of enlargement of the Centre of Excellence. As early as next year, the unit expects to receive some new member countries.

The multinational status of the Centre of Excellence will decisively contribute to its role within regional and other international structures, but mostly within NATO, who has recognised the Slovenian Armed Forces as a trustworthy partner in the development of mountain warfare. It will mainly provide for the standardisation and interoperability of various mountain warfare entities at an international level.

Apart from the agreement signing, the Bohinjska Bela Military Post also hosted a 2012 Work Planning Conference led by Colonel Boštjan Blaznik, Commander of the Multinational Centre of Excellence. The Work Planning Conference answered some of the questions regarding future operation challenges and reaffirmed the commitment of member states to take part in the future operation of the Centre.
