SAF members prepared for the operation in Afghanistan

From 22 to 26 February, members of a motorized platoon were tested for their level of preparedness at the central SAF training ground Poček near Postojna. These SAF members form the majority of the 13th Slovenian ISAF Contingent which will be deployed to a six-month international operation in Afghanistan at the end of March.
The testing was conducted in two phases. In the first phase, the Contingent was tested for its preparedness in the area of personnel, signals, material provision and intelligence-security preparations. In the second phase, the Combat Training Centre tested the preparedness of the Contingent in line with a scenario adapted to essential tasks the SAF members will perform in Afghanistan. Tactical preparedness of the Contingent was tested with a tactical operation simulation system made by Saab which enables a truly realistic testing since it monitors each individual on the battlefield and simulates the operation of all types of armaments both, of friendly and enemy forces.
Members of the Contingent thus became familiar with possible situations they might encounter in Afghanistan. In this context, their reactions, the method of threat elimination and further conduct of tasks were assessed by observers.
