New Slovenian ISAF Contingent assumes tasks in Afghanistan
On Saturday, 15 October, a ceremony took place at Camp Stone in Herat, marking the transfer of duties and tasks between two Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) contingents engaged in NATO’s operation ISAF in Afghanistan.
Commander of the 15th Contingent Colonel Dobran Božič handed over his duties to Commander of the 16th Contingent Colonel Robert Glavaš. The ceremony was also attended by Commander, Joint Operations Centre Brigadier Dragan Bavčar.
In his address, Colonel Božič thanked members of the 15th Contingent for the contribution they made with their expert and professional approach to the implementation of tasks. He also wished all the success to members of the 16th contingent in further implementation of tasks. During a short ceremony, Colonel Božič presented his Italian counterpart Colonel Levat with an International Cooperation Medal of the Slovenian Armed Forces, while both colonels received NATO ISAF medals from the hands of Deputy Commander, Regional Command West Colonel Christopher Cavoli.
The 16th SAF Contingent includes 87 members of various SAF units and 12 members of the Colorado National Guard working within the Operational Mentor and Liaison Team and the Combat Support Unit. The Contingent’s tasks remain unchanged. The main body will stay in Bala Boluk, where they will train an Afghan National Army battalion, while other contingent members will work at different commands in Kabul, Herat, Shindad and Farah.
