Members of the 16th Slovenian ISAF Contingent successfully concluded final preparations in Germany
On 24 August, the training of the 16th Slovenian ISAF Contingent at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Hohenfels, Germany came to an end. Contingent members are to be deployed to operation ISAF in Afghanistan in October.
The training included 35 Slovenian Armed Forces members and 12 members of the U.S. Armed Forces who will operate within the Slovenian Contingent in Afghanistan.
In the first part of the training, the contingent trained in tactical procedures and specific tasks performed by contingent members in Afghanistan. In the second part, members of the command trained in staff work procedures at a tactical level, while company mentors trained in field tactical procedures. The training concluded with a joint exercise aimed at verifying the contingent. The aim of the training in Germany was also to acquaint SAF members with their U.S. counterparts. U.S. servicemembers successfully integrated themselves into the Slovenian Contingent, where will be in charge of logistic and operation support.
The training in the Republic of Germany represented the second phase of the preparation for deployment. The first part of preparations was carried out in the Republic of Slovenia. During the first phase, which took place at Baron Andrej Čehovin Military Post in Postojna, consolidation and training of individual and collective skills as well as small unit tactics was carried out. Servicemembers attended various courses and seminars and received weapons and equipment. The third phase of the training will take place during the first two weeks after their arrival to Afghanistan.
