Distinguished visitors visit Lebanon

On Saturday, 14 January, UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, visited Lebanon. On this occasion, he met with members of the armed forces from 35 countries contributing forces to the multinational operation UNIFIL, 14 of which were members of the 11th Slovenian UNIFIL Contingent.

At the UNIFIL Headquarters in Naqoura, Secretary General was welcomed by a solemn line-up of servicemembers from participating countries. Later during the ceremony, he presented an award to a Spanish Major General Alberto Asarta Cuevas who will complete his two-year tenure as Commander UNIFIL in the end of January.

On Moday, 16 January, contingent members in the UN base in Shama received a visit by the non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Lebanon based in Turkey, Dr Milan Jazbec. The Ambassador was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Slovenia to Lebanon, Raymond C. El-Hachem. Contingent members warmly welcomed both guests, while the Ambassador used a relaxed conversation to outline the political situation, both, in Lebanon and in the wider region.

Contingent members closed the day with a joint dinner in the company of Commander Sector West, Brigade General Carlo Laman. On this occasion, Ambassador Dr Milan Jazbec expressed to Contingent Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Janez Pungaršek, his sincere satisfaction with the recognisability that the Slovenian Armed Forces continue to enjoy through the presence of the 11th Slovenian Contingent owing to their expert and professional work as well as the respect shown towards the local population.
