Chief of the General Staff visits Macedonia
On Tuesday, 27 September, the Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Major General Alojz Šteiner ended his two-day visit to Macedonia, where he was hosted by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Macedonia, Major General Gorančo Koteski.
The pair mainly discussed bilateral military cooperation of both armed forces. They exchanged experiences related to NATO integration and capability building as well as the transformation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Macedonia and the contribution of both armed forces to multinational operations and missions.
On the second day of the visit Major General Šteiner and General Koteski observed the activities of Slovenian and Macedonian troops engaged in the exercise Challenge 2010 which took place on the training range Krivolak and shooting range Petrovac. Generals also observed the preparations of Pilatus PC-9M aircraft for ground-target bombing, preparations of MI-24 helicopters for missile launching, as well as preparations of combat operations and firing of air targets with Igla Man-Portable Air Defence Systems. In the final part of the visit, the generals also met with members of Slovenian and Macedonian armed forces participating in the exercise.
On the same day, Force Commander of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Branimir Furlan, also attended the exercise and joined Chief of the SAF General Staff, Major General Alojz Šteiner as he met with Slovenian troops. Both expressed their satisfaction with the demonstrated skills and the smooth flow of the exercise.
