10 years with PROVOJ in the service of Slovenia

In 2012, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the decision to gradually cancel the manning of the Slovenian Armed Forces through conscription and eventually pass over to manning with professional soldiers.

In February 2002, a group of members of parliament brought into the legislative process the Proposal of amendments to the Military Service Act (Official Gazette of RS, No. 86/02), where they proposed to abolish military duty in peace and pass over to manning of the armed forces with professional soldiers and contractual reserve.

The transformation of the Slovenian Armed Forces was impacted by a number of changes determined by the social, political and security environment in Slovenia and wider international community.

The Ministry of Defence initiated a special project with a working title Professional Armed Forces Complemented with Contractual Reserve (PROVOJ), which comprehensively dealt with the professionalization of the Slovenian Armed Forces.
