»Vanguard Proof«, joint training of Slovenian and U.S. troops, is underway
Joint training of Slovenian and U.S. armed forces “Vanguard Proof” began on Saturday, 18 March at the main Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) training range in Postojna.
“Vanguard Proof” is organised by the SAF Logistics Brigade. In addition to the Logistics Brigade members, Slovenian participants comprise members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Platoon (430th Naval Division), and members of the 72nd Brigade. Overall, there are some 100 SAF members and some 200 members of the 16th Sustainment Brigade/21st Theater Sustainment Command/U.S. Army Europe Sustainment Command.
The main part of the exercise will take part at Poček training field (combat shooting), in the areas of Petelinje, Slovenska vas (air supply, dropping of airborne units and cargo loading) and the Cerklje Air Field (dropping of airborne units) between 19 and 23 March. The first part of the training includes drill and preparations, while combat shooting will be organised between 21 and 23 March. It will include eight convoys (two Slovenian and six U.S.) and air supply units. The training will be supported by the U.S. Air Force with two C-130J Super Hercules aircraft, which will on 21 March fly in from the U.S. airbase in Ramstein, Germany. During 9 and 10 a.m., they will discharge cargo and airborne troops. During 10.50 and 12.30, they will drop airborne troops at Cerklje air field and load the troops in charge of preparing airlifted cargo. They will return to Ramstein after they complete their mission.
