The SAF conducts exercise Preskok 2020
Between 24 April and 19 June, members of the Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) conducted a concept-based exercise Preskok 2020 composed of platoon and company-level training and a joint exercise. Exercise Preskok 2020 included a total of approximately 2,500 SAF members and members of the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as members of the Armed Forces of Montenegro as observers. It was conducted at several locations across Slovenia, and included the infantry platoons of the SAF 1st Brigade, 72nd Brigade, as well as members and capabilities of the 430th Naval Division, 15th Wing, Special Operations Unit, and Logistics Brigade. A series of tactical military activities aimed at testing and upgrading the SAF’s operational capabilities; training of tactics, techniques and procedures, as well as verification of units, and command and control system in a crisis-response setting. Since the knowledge of the terrain is essential for ensuring a rapid response, the exercise was conducted on a difficult terrain and outside of military training grounds and shooting ranges.
The exercise series began with platoon-level exercises, which established the conditions for company-level exercises. Together with the reconnaissance and protection of the area, the company-level exercises took place between 1 and 12 June in the area around Babno Polje and Črnomelj. The final, most demanding phase was conducted between 15 and 19 June. It consisted of an SAF joint exercise during which the participants trained joint operation procedures, which constitute an important part of their readiness. The joint exercise combined the contributions of all branches of the Slovenian Armed Forces supplementing the activities of infantry units within small-scale military operations in the territory of the Republic of Slovenia. The overall purpose of the international military exercise was to maintain the operational readiness of the Slovenian Armed Forces.
