The 35th Slovenian Armed Forces KFOR contingent takes over

On Tuesday, 25 April, Camp Villagio Italia in Peć, Kosovo, was the venue of a ceremony marking the handover of tasks and the area of operations between the 34th and the 35th Slovenian Armed Forces contingents participating in NATO’s Operation Joint Enterprise in Kosovo.

Commander of the 34th Slovenian KFOR contingent, Lieutenant Colonel Franc Kalič handed over the duty of contingent commander and Deputy Commander of Multinational Group West (MNBG–W) to Commander of the 35th Contingent Lieutenant Colonel Miha Kuhar.

Upon taking on the duty of contingent commander, Lieutenant Colonel Miha Kuhar said that the contingent had been put from its daily military dynamics into a setting, which is different, and demands a different approach and mind-set. Further in his speech, he emphasized that “we will face everything that this deployment brings upon us, together. We will take pride in the achievements of each other, and will help each other when hardship arrives. Each individual forms an important part of the community and no one should be left alone. We are in for both professional and personal challenges. Regardless of what happens – we should not lose our courage, good will and pride. We should orient ourselves according to the values we abide and act by.”

At the end, he expressed his appreciation to the 34th contingent for their excellent performance and wished them a safe return back home.
The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Kosovo HE Miljan Majhen, KFOR Commander Major General Giovanni Fungo, Commander of the Multinational Battle Group West Colonel Giovanni Giaghedu, Commander of the SAF Joint Operations Centre Brigadier General Klemen Medja and senior representatives of foreign armed forces present within KFOR.
The 35th Slovenian KFOR contingent includes 243 members from different Slovenian Armed Forces units, the core of which is composed of SAF 1st Brigade members.
