Tanja Žakelj wins world military championship

Between 11 and 14 May, the municipality of Kamnik was the venue of the 30th World Military Championship in Cycling. The championship included 43 participants from Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark, Germany, France, Latvia, the Netherlands, Ukraine and Slovenia. On Sunday, 13 May, the highest step of the winner’s podium was occupied by Tanja Žakelj, member of the Sports Unit of the Slovenian Armed Forces, while the first and second runner-ups were Sabrina Enaux  and Margot Moschetti from France. In the men’s category, the first place was won by Ruben Scheire from Belgium. His teammate Jens Schuermans finished second and Christian Pfäffle from Germany third.

This year's 30th World Military Championship in Cycling was organised by the Slovenian Armed Forces, a full-fledged member of the International Military Sports Council – CISM (Conseil International du Sport Militaire) since 1992. CISM was established on 18 February 1948 with the aim to promote international peace. CISM, also a partner of the International Olympic Committee, includes 136 member countries whose armed forces members compete in over 30 sports disciplines.
