Successful effort of Slovenian military mentors in Iraq
In the last few weeks, members of the 2nd Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) Contingent in the operation Inherent Resolve in northern Iraq have successfully accomplished the training of members of the 2nd Battalion, 16th Brigade of the Iraqi Security Forces. At a ceremony marking the end of training, all training participants who had successfully completed training, received training certificates. The training will continue with the next 450-member rotation of trainees from the 3rd Battalion, 9th Brigade of the northern-Iraq security forces.
The Slovenian Armed Forces have been taking part in the operation Inherent Resolve since 5 September 2016. Six contingent members are located in the Kurdistan Training Coordination Centre (KTCC) in Erbil, while one officer works in the coalition command within U.S. Central Command (US CENTCOM) in Tampa, USA. The six SAF members in Erbil work under the lead of Germany, one of the leading nations in the Operation. Together, they constitute a part of the Mobile Training Team and work within the Building Partner Capacity Team (BPC-T). SAF members provide mentoring support to Iraqi servicemembers in infantry weapons handling and tactics, basic medical services, engineering and signals.
