Slovenian Armed Forces members take part in the multinational military exercise Saber Guardian 2017
Members of different Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) units are taking part in the U.S. European Command, U.S. Army Europe-led multinational military exercise Saber Guardian 2017, which will be conducted between 26 June and 12 August and involves more than 25,000 service members from over 20 ally and partner nations. The aim of the exercise is to build readiness and improve interoperability under a unified command, executing a full range of military missions to support the security and stability of the Black Sea Region, reinforce the Alliance and implement assurance measures.
The exercise is composed of 18 separate exercises taking place in seven different nations and including some 450 Slovenian troops.
The multinational exercise Dragoon Guardian, which is being conducted between 26 June and 22 July on the territory between Germany and Bulgaria, involves 58 SAF members from the 74th Infantry Regiment with attached logistics elements. SAF members along with an allied unit used 11 vehicles to move from Germany through the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania to Bulgaria. On their way, they have performed several different tactical tasks. On 8 July in Romania, the already engaged SAF units were joined by an additional Military police Platoon, which includes 32 members and 10 vehicles.
The multinational exercise Black Swan taking place in Hungary between 8 and 22 July includes 40 SAF members from the SAF 15th Wing and the Special Operations Unit.
Between 8 and 16 July, Postojna was the venue of the multinational exercise Dacian Guardian, with exercise Immediate Response as its constituent part. It was conducted as a computer-assisted staff exercise and included 132 members of the Battalion Battle Group command members, joint Training Centre and the 72nd Brigade. Meanwhile, three SAF members were engaged in the computer-assisted staff exercise Dacian Guardian in Bulgaria.
The multinational exercise Mascal – BMTF (Balkan Medical Task Force), which is taking place in Romania between 9 and 19 July, includes 9 members of the SAF Military Medical Unit.
The multinational exercise Tobruq Legacy is being conducted in Romania between 10 and 22 July and includes 16 vehicles and 45 members of the Air Defence Platoon of the 72nd Brigade with additional elements from the 1st Brigade, 15th Wing and Military Medical Unit.
Noble Partner, the multinational exercise to be held between 27 July and 12 August in Georgia, will include the 37 SAF members from the 74th Infantry regiment who will prior to that take part in the exercise Dragoon Guardian.
During the multinational exercise Saber Guardian 2017, additional 150 SAF members from the 74th Infantry Regiment and Combat Support Battalion of the 72nd Brigade with 23 vehicles will take part in the multinational exercise Platinum Lion 17 to be held in Bulgaria between 31 July and 12 August. The aim of this exercise is to increase the interoperability within the Alliance, provide platoons with fire and manoeuvre training and conduct a tactical live-fire exercise.
