Excellent performance of the 3rd Slovenian eFP contingent in the integration and certification exercise of the Battalion Battle Group

In the second half of August, the 3rd Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) contingent in the multinational operation Enhanced Forward Presence in Latvia took part in Latvia's national security system exercise. It participated in the part of the exercise, which included the integration and certification exercise of the Canadian-led multinational Battalion Battle Group.

The largest exercise of Latvia’s national security system incorporated both civilian and military subsystems. The Battle Group, which also comprises the 3rd SAF contingent, was engaged as part of the military defence section. The main body of the SAF contingent is composed of a reconnaissance platoon and Jointe Terminal Attack Controller team, two members of the battle group command and the national support element. Contingent members made a diligent and professional effort and delivered excellent performance within the multinational Battle Group for which they received a special commendation by the Battle Group commander.

The Republic of Slovenia operates in Latvia under the leadership of Canada as the lead nation of the Battalion Battle Group, which also includes Albania, Italy, Poland and Spain. Currently, the Slovenian Armed Forces participates in the eFP mission with 50 members. The deployed SAF members take part in peacekeeping activities of eFP forces (exercises, training, movements to protect own forces and other peacetime activities to ensure and maintain a comprehensive and enhanced deterrent and defensive posture of NATO).

By participating in the Enhanced Forward Presence, Slovenia expresses its support to the strengthening of NATO’s comprehensive and credible deterrence and defence posture. In this way, the Alliance responds to a significantly changed security environment, dynamics and threats on its eastern flank. With its presence in the Baltics, the Alliance provides additional assurance measures to the most vulnerable Eastern Allies, who feel particularly at risk and have therefore requested assistance from NATO. The participation in the mission also contributes to the upgrading of interoperability with Allied forces, better competencies and training, as well as to the strengthening of the readiness and combat capability of units and members of the Slovenian Armed Forces. The operation sends a clear deterrent message that any aggression against any allied nation will be deterred using an adequate joint military response.
