Ceremony marking the return of the 1st Slovenian eFP contingent
On Wednesday, 10 January, the Edvard Peperko Barracks in Ljubljana was the venue of a ceremony marking the return of the 1st Slovenian contingent deployed in the enhanced Forward Presence mission in Latvia. On this occasion, contingent members were awarded In the Service of Peace Medals. In his speech, Deputy Force Commander of the Slovenian Armed Forces Brigadier General Ernest Anželj noted the excellent performance of contingent members in combined multinational operations and trainings, which provided them with professional and personal experiences as well as with the awareness about their knowledge, abilities and capabilities. He commended the troops’ professionalism, sacrifice and flexibility in unpredictable circumstances and welcomed them home.
The 1st Slovenian eFP contingent was composed of 47 Slovenian Armed Forces members.
The bulk of the contingent was composed of a multipurpose Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Defence Battalion with attached support elements. They took part in peacetime activities, such as exercises, training events and other. By participating in the Enhanced Forward Presence mission, Slovenia expresses its support to the strengthening of NATO’s comprehensive and credible deterrence and defence posture.
