Rear Admiral Renato PETRIČ

 

Rear Admiral Renato Petrič was born on 8 November 1958 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. In the Former Yugoslav People's Army, he performed the duty of a patrol boat commander. In 1991, he joined the Territorial Defence of the Republic of Slovenia as a Lieutenant. During his military career, he has performed a number of highly responsible duties within the commands and units of the Slovenian Armed Forces and was actively engaged in its establishment and development.

  • 1973 – 1977: Military High School (Ljubljana, Slovenia)
  • 1977 – 1981:  Naval Military Academy (Split, Croatia)
  • 2001: General Staff Programme, SAF Command and Staff School (Poljče, Slovenia)
  • 2003 – 2004: one-year course at the Royal College of Defence Studies (London, Great Britain)


Career in the Slovenian Armed Forces:

  • 1992 – 1993: Chief of the Planning Branch, Territorial Defence Republic Staff
  • 1993 – 1996:  Chief of the Naval Branch, Territorial Defence Republic Staff
    1996 – 1998: Chief of the Naval Branch, General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces
  • 1998 – 2001: Deputy Commander, 2nd Operational Command of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Postojna
  • 2001 – 2002: Director of Staff, General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces
  • 2002 – 2003:  Commander, 2nd Operational Command of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Postojna
  • 2003 – 2005: Defence Advisor and Aide-de-Camp of the President of the Republic of Slovenia.
  • 2005 – 2006: Force Commander of the Slovenian Armed Forces
  • 2007 – 2009: Deputy Military Representative to the European Union
  • 2009: Deputy Military Representative to NATO and the European Union
  • 2010: Commander of the Peacetime Structure of the Slovenian Armed Forces Abroad and Military Representative to NATO and the EU
  • since 1 January 2011: Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces

Rear Admiral Petrič has received numerous medals and decorations, among others the Gold Medal of the Slovenian Armed Forces and the Gold Medal of General Maister.

He is married to Adrijana and they have two children. He lives in Ljubljana and enjoys hiking and skiing.
