Brigadier Bojan Pograjc

Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on 29 September 1961.


Education:


He studied at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana and graduated from the Reserve Officer School for Air Defence in the former Yugoslavia in 1981. He graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences (Department of Political Science, Chair of Defence Studies) at the University of Ljubljana in 2006. He received the Master of Science from the National War College at the National Defense University in the U.S.A in 2007.
He is also a graduate of the following courses: the General Staff Course, International Defence Management Course in Monterey, California, the U.S. Security Assistance Foreign Purchaser Course in Slovenia, the Advanced Logistics Officer’s Course and the Observership Marine Corps Course in the U.S., the Multinational Staff Officer’s Orientation Course and the Multinational Crisis Management Course in the NATO School (SHAPE), the Integrated PfP/OSCE Course in the NATO Defence College and the Senior Executive Seminar at the College of International and Security Studies George C. Marshall, European Centre for Securities Studies.

 

Career:

  • 1981-1991: He participated in military educational matters for reserve officers and was also active in command of the armed forces during military exercises. Due to his involvement in preparations for Slovenia’s War for Independence in 1991, he became a war veteran.
  • 1991-1997: After Slovenia declared its independence, he began to work for the MoD. He was the Head of the Procurement Section for the Domestic Market in the Logistics Directorate and leader of the project Purchase of Goods and Services as a part of the Strategic Development Programme for the Defence Logistics System in the MoD. He was also Committee Vice Chairman for Public Purchasing of the Slovenian MoD from 1995 to 1997.
  • 1998: Country Officer in the G-7 Department of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces.
  • 1999: Chief of Section for Euro Atlantic Integration in the G-7 Department of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces.
  • 2000: State Secretary in the MoD.
  • 2001: Chief of the Department for Logistics in Division J-5 of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces. Leader of a fielding phase of the acquisition of LAV Valuk 6x6.
  • 2002: Chief of the Army Branches Department in J-5 and Deputy Chief of J-5 of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces. Leader of the project XXIst Century Worrier.
  • 2003-2005: He worked at the Command for Doctrine, Development, Education and Training.
  • 2006: Assistant to CHOD. Leader of a purchasing phase of the acquisition of IFV 8x8.
  • 2007-2009: Commander of 1st SAF Brigade (separate).
  • 2009: Commandant of the Doctrine, Development, Education and Training Command.

Hobbies:
Bojan Pograjc is actively involved in mountain climbing activities. He is an internationally qualified mountain guide of IFMGA and an instructor for the Slovenian Mountain Rescue Service. Since October 2009 he is also Secretary General of the International Federation of Mountain Soldiers (IFMS). Since 2009 he is Secretary General of the International Federation of Mountain Soldiers (IFMS). Beside that he is also Head of National Delegation to Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM).
