Insignia

Slovenian Armed Forces coat of arms

The Slovenian Armed Forces coat of arms marks the affiliation to the Slovenian Armed Forces. It is shaped as a round shield which on the top forms a three-peaked mountain symbolising Mount Triglav, the highest peak in Slovenia. The shield is coloured with the colours of Slovenian national flag – white, blue, red, in succession from top to bottom. The shield is set over two swords in saltire, with only two hilts visible beneath and above the shield.

The Slovenian Armed Forces coat of arms is a permanent identification insignia for the members of the Slovenian Armed Forces, which is in accordance with international military law provisions.

The Slovenian Armed Forces coat of arms can be depicted on vehicles, vessels as well as in the headquarters of Slovenian Armed Forces commands and units.

Members of the Slovenian Armed Forces wear the Slovenian Armed Forces coat of arms on their hats or helmets in the form of a badge and on the left sleeve of the uniform in the form of a patch.

Flag of the Slovenian Armed Forces

The geometry, artistic appearance and the colours of the flag of the Slovenian Armed Forces are identical to those of the Slovenian national flag without the coat of arms. The Slovenian Armed Forces coat of arms is placed in the middle of the flag, reaching into the white stripe of colour on the top and red stripe of colour on the bottom. Displayed above the shield is the semi-circle inscription SLOVENSKA VOJSKA (Slovenian Armed Forces). The flagpole is topped with a stylised Slovenian Armed Forces coat of arms.

As far as form, colour and coat of arms are regarded, the banners of military territorial commands, operational commands, brigades, independent battalions and units of equal or superior level resemble the flag of the Slovenian Armed Forces. The only differences are the inscription above the coat of arms which denotes the numerical designation of a command or unit and the semi-circle inscription below which denotes the name of a command or unit.

The position insignia of the Chief of the General Staff, his deputy and assistants, as well as personnel representing different arms and services bear the acronym "GŠSV" (General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces) in the bottom part of the insignia.
